29 year-old Ottawa man arrested by Thunder Bay police

Another man from Ottawa is in custody in Thunder Bay after being arrested on Friday by city police.

According to a media release from Thunder Bay police issued Monday morning, a 29 year-old man was arrested and charged with three counts of possession for the purpose of trafficking, and one count of having proceeds of crime under $5,000.

Officers were called to a home on Picton Avenue at about 5:15 p.m., police said, due to reports of an intoxicated man causing a disturbance. Police said when they spoke with him, they found he was carrying more than 1,000 pills — believed to be Oxycodone, Percocets and Xanax-type pills — as well as $2,600 in cash.

"Those pills were illegal and he was subsequently arrested for trafficking and possession of proceeds of crime," said police spokesperson Chris Adams.

Friday's arrest involved the fourth man from the nation's capital to be charged by police in the city in the past week. Three others, as well as a man from Thunder Bay, have been taken into custody and charged in connection with a reported abduction of a teenager on the city's north side.

Adams said there may be a link between those arrests and the one police made early Friday evening.

"We know that the [drug] market here's becoming much more lucrative and we are seeing example of people from Toronto, but certainly we've had a number of experiences with folks from Ottawa," Adams said.
