Pest control experts are now inspecting an entire Thunder Bay social housing building for bedbugs.

Last week, CBC News reported tenant concerns about a possible infestation at the Royal Edward Arms on May Street. Housing officials from the Thunder Bay District Social Services Administration Board have now distributed letters to tenants saying every unit in the building will get a thorough check this week and next.

"Housing is finally owning up to it and finally doing something about the bedbugs," said Anne Cataford, the tenant who first spoke out about the issue.

"I feel a little bit better that they're taking control of it and trying to get rid of the bedbugs in the whole building."

Cataford said the bedbug problem in her own apartment is improving and a pest control contractor has sprayed it again. She said she's not getting bitten anymore and the bites she already has are healing.
