Most popular baby names in 2023 for northern Ontario differ slightly than south of the province

Once again, Olivia and Noah have topped the lists of the most popular baby names for girls and boys born in Ontario, according to the latest provincial data.
It outlines the top ten baby names for both girls and boys. The province also released a list of the most popular baby names in northern Ontario in 2023, and there are some slight differences.
Northern Ontario bucks the trend of top names reported by the rest of the province, with Charlotte and Jack.
Other names like Aurora, Lily, Hunter and Maverick have made their way on the list of most popular baby names in northern Ontario, but not for the rest of the province.
After Charlotte, the most popular girls' names in northern Ontario were:
- Olivia
- Amelia
- Ava / Ellie
- Nora / Abigail / Sophie
- Scarlett / Aurora / Harper
- Isla
- Lily / Evelyn
- Ella / Hazel
- Quinn / Eleanor / Avery / Emma
And after Jack, the most popular boys' names in northern Ontario were:
- Noah
- Hudson
- Oliver
- Henry
- Levi
- William
- Benjamin / Liam
- Maverick / Theodore
- Hunter
Provincially, it's the 15th year in a row Olivia has held the number one spot for girls and the fifth straight year that Noah has held that place for boys.
The names were also favourites nationally, as Olivia and Noah remain the most popular baby names in Canada, according to the latest data from Statistics Canada's Baby Names Observatory.
The Ontario Ministry of Public and Business Service Delivery and Procurement released its annual top 10 lists of most popular baby names Wednesday. The data is from 2023.
