Thunder Bay turns into hockey mecca during Robins Minor Hockey Classic
Hundreds of young hockey players are taking to the ice in Thunder Bay, Ont., starting today.
The annual Robins Minor Hockey Classic runs through the weekend at arenas all across the city.
The event provides great opportunities for players to build skills and confidence, said tournament volunteer Kelly Mallon.
"This is like a one weekend winner take all, and it really pushes the kids to strive to do their best and — win or lose — it's about ... playing your best."
More than 160 teams and 2,500 players are taking part in this year's tournament, which is marking its 25th year, said Mallon, who is president of Port Arthur Minor Hockey.
The tournament will use every rink in the city throughout the weekend, Mallon said.
It allows local teams to play each other, as well as teams from Winnipeg and Wawa.
