Walter Carter to return to court on charges of impaired driving causing death

A 39-year-old Sudbury man facing impaired driving charges including one count of impaired driving causing death will return to court.

A 39-year-old Sudbury man facing impaired driving charges, including one count of impaired driving causing death, will return to court.

Walter Carter is charged in connected with the August collision that killed DJ Hancock, 18, of Sudbury.

Police were called to a three-vehicle collision on the Highway 17 southwest bypass, between Southview Drive and Fielding Road on Aug. 21.

Police said a pickup truck collided with two oncoming eastbound vehicles.

Hancock, on his way back from a tryout for the Sudbury Nickel Barons hockey team, was pronounced dead at the scene.

Another man was seriously injured.

Carter was free on conditions from an earlier impaired driving charge when the collision happened.

He faces a number of charges in connection with the crash, including impaired driving causing death and dangerous operation causing death.

He returns to court Nov. 3 when the case is expected to be resolved.
