Scoliosis surgery helps Sudbury teen realize black belt dream

A teenager in Sudbury says she has the local Shrine Club to thank for life-changing surgery.

At the age of 11, Jurnee Parisotto-Charron was an up-and-coming black belt in karate when she was diagnosed with severe scoliosis. The diagnosis put her athletic career on hold.

Parisotto-Charron's parents reached out to the shrine club, who referred her for surgery at the Shriners Hospital for Children-Canada in Montreal.

Now at the age of 16, Parisotto-Charron has that blackbelt. She told her story to CBC reporter Olivia Stefanovich:
