Provincial police Friday identified the three men who were killed when their plane crashed in Georgian Bay near Griffiths Island on Thursday.

Richard Leland Gougeon, 71, James Thornton Gougeon, 43, both of Mission Hill Sudbury, and the pilot, Richard Ross, 51, of Walden, Ont.

The three men are related, and their bodies have been taken to London University Hospital for post mortem examinations, police said.

The Transportation Safety Board is assisting the OPP with the investigation, but they don't know yet what caused the crash.

Police say the float plane went down while coming in for a landing, hitting the water about 200 meters short of the runway.

It is the second time in less than a week that Sudbury area people have died tragically. Last Sunday, two men were killed in a boating accident on Lake Wanapitei. Two other people in the boat were injured, one seriously.
