Northern Ontario School of Medicine invites kids to camp
Northern medical school offering camps on Sudbury, Thunder Bay campuses
High school students from across the region are in Sudbury and Thunder Bay this week to attend a medical summer camp.
It’s offered by the Northern Ontario School of Medicine and allows students to study health-care and science.
“We want to encourage kids to really think about health careers,” said NOSM's Danielle Barbeau-Rodrigue.
Barbeau-Rodrigue said the school knows that northern Ontario is facing a physician shortage, as well as other health care professionals, and the camps will "expose kids to that."
"[The camps encourage] them to start thinking about those courses that they need to take further on in their high school and, of course, at the undergrad level,” she said.
At the camps, students can study a variety of topics, including X-Rays, DNA analysis, herbal remedies and Aboriginal traditional healing.
