David Dennie, off-duty OPP officer, killed in Hwy 17 crash

Provincial police say an off-duty police officer is dead after a crash Thursday morning on Highway 17, just east of Blind River.

Provincial police say an off-duty police officer is dead after a crash Thursday morning on Highway 17, just east of Blind River.

Blind River's David Dennie, 36, died after his sport utility vehicle collided with a tractor trailer. Sergeant Carolle Dionne said Dennie worked at the Blind River OPP detachment.

The truck driver, Thunder Bay's Gary Tyska, 61, was taken to hospital with minor injuries and later released.

Highway 17 east of Blind River has since been reopened to traffic and the police investigation is ongoing.
