Near North District School Board to expand vape detector installation after successful pilot
The Near North District School Board conducted a pilot of the detectors at a school in South River, where the detectors were tested and data was monitored. The results led to fewer students being suspended for vaping at school. The school board is now moving forward with installing vape detectors in all of its secondary schools.

Elliot Lake ponders how to spend Hockeyville windfall
The City of Elliot Lake was announced as the winner of Hockeyville 2024 on Saturday. It beat out three other Canadian communities, after collecting the most online votes in a two-day poll last week. The community will receive $250,000, and will use that money to help fix up its Centennial Arena.

Côté Gold Mine completes its first gold pour
Toronto-based IAMGOLD Corporation says the first gold pour happened at its Côté Gold Mine, between Sudbury and Timmins, on Easter Sunday. For the next step, the company will ramp up production.

Four adventurers plan to ski the length of Ontario's James Bay Coast for charity
Members of Expeditions Ontario will travel from Cape Henrietta Maria on the base of Hudson’s Bay and ski for 500 kilometres to the town of Moosonee. They'll be raising money for a charity in Attawapiskat while they're at it.
