'Challenges' with current cab provider: Sudbury Airport
Travellers complain of no taxi service available once they land at airport
The airport in Sudbury, Ont., is taking steps to address complaints about taxi pickup service.
Currently, the Greater Sudbury Airport has an exclusive contract with Sudbury Cab to have taxis waiting for people as they arrive in the city.
The airport confirms it has received complaints from travelers flying in to Sudbury who have been unable to get a cab.
"We do acknowledge that there are challenges and that the current contract with Sudbury Cab is up in 2018," says director of marketing and airport development, Jean-Mathieu Chenier.
"We're looking at adjustments that can be made for the next RFP to see if we can mitigate those situations."
Customers can get service from other taxi companies, but those arrangements have to be made in advance.
Chenier says it's best for passengers to book travel ahead before landing at the airport, to ensure they have a ride.
"We do hear [of] challenges in some other jurisdictions as well," Chenier says referring to airports in other communities.
"It's different when you have a large international airport like Pearson, where there's always taxi companies lined up. Whereas smaller airports, especially in a large geography like Sudbury, we do face challenges at times."
