Stories of sacrifice and courage from the Second World War
Their numbers are dwindling. But, one-by-one, veterans of the Second World War are telling their stories for posterity.
Until now, many veterans have kept largely silent, never really sharing their experiences with even their family. But their recollections constitute history on the most personal level — eyewitness accounts and personal reflections that knit a rich tableau of service and sacrifice.
An initiative of the Historica-Dominion Institute, The Memory Project has travelled the country recording the experiences of Canada's Second World War veterans.
It is a digital home to more than 1,500 of their stories and is trying to collect the memories of every living Second World War veteran in Canada. So if you know a veteran who wants to have his or her story recorded for posterity please contact The Memory Project through one of the links on this page.
