UFC fighter Charles Oliveira OK to go home after injury at Fight Night in Saskatoon
No major injuries detected, UFC says
Featherweight Charles Oliveira has been released from a Saskatoon medical centre and is expected to return home on Wednesday — three days after being carried away on a stretcher from the main event at UFC Fight Night 74.
Oliveira favoured his right shoulder and neck area in his featherweight bout against Matt Holloway Sunday at the SaskTel Centre and eventually went down, with the match being stopped 1:39 into the first round. Holloway was awarded a knockout victory while the Brazilian needed medical attention.
"Charles Oliveira has been released from medical care in Saskatoon today and will be travelling home tomorrow," the UFC said in a statement. "Preliminary test results for major chest, neck or throat injuries were negative and Oliveira will have a follow up appointment with his local physician upon returning home. Oliveira is in good spirits and appreciates the support he's received from his fans during this time."
Oliveira (20-5) is the seventh-ranked UFC featherweight. Holloway (14-3) is ranked fifth.
