Sask. NDP nominate Nathaniel Teed for Saskatoon-Meewasin byelection
NDP says Teed prioritizing education, 2SLGBTQ+ issues in bid for Legislative seat
The Saskatchewan New Democratic Party have chosen their candidate to run in the Saskatoon-Meewasin byelection which will fill the hole left by the party's former leader.
Nathaniel Teed, a lifelong Saskatoon resident and a small business owner, earned the nomination from members of the Official Opposition party on Wednesday evening.
"I'm humbled to have received the support from our members and excited to hit the ground running," Teed said in a news release.
"I believe in the potential of this province — I've seen it firsthand. We have so much opportunity here in Saskatchewan, we just need a government that recognizes the need to build our communities and energize our economy."
Former party leader Ryan Meili announced he was stepping down from his leadership role in February, sparking an leadership race in June. Then, he announced he was leaving politics altogether in May, opening up his Saskatoon-Meewasin seat for a byelection that is required to be held by the end of 2022.

—@Sask_NDPTeed is a former educational assistant and owns a furniture and design store in downtown Saskatoon with his partner, James. He is also the membership coordinator at the Remai Modern Art Museum in Saskatoon.
As a member of the 2SLGBTQ+ community, Teed says he hopes to bring that representation to the legislature and is also a fierce advocate for education concerns like increased funding and smaller class sizes, the NDP said.
"It's clear that he has energized folks here in the riding and has new ideas and policies to help build a Saskatchewan that works for this generation and the next," said NDP leader Carla Beck in the release.
As of Monday morning, the Saskatchewan Party hasn't announced a candidate for the Saskatoon-Meewasin byelection.
