Saskatchewan Party nominate Kim Groff for Saskatoon Meewasin byelection
Kim Groff selected by Saskatchewan Party members Thursday night
The Saskatchewan Party has nominated longtime Saskatoon resident Kim Groff to run in the upcoming Saskatoon Meewasin byelection, which was prompted by the former provincial NDP leader's departure from politics.
"I'm working hard to ensure that the Saskatchewan Party wins this byelection, and that I have the honour of representing the residents of Meewasin," Groff said in a news release.
The Saskatchewan Party announced Groff's nomination late Thursday night.
The Saskatoon Meewasin seat was previously held by former Saskatchewan NDP leader Ryan Meili before he announced in May that he would be resigning his seat and leaving politics. A few months before, in February, he announced was stepping down from his leadership role with the NDP.
Groff said his past experience will be a strong asset in this byelection campaign.
"I am excited to join Premier Scott Moe and the Saskatchewan Party to continue the good work that is being done in Saskatoon and across the province," he said.
The Saskatchewan Party said Groff has had a long business career in sales, human resources and business finances and has lived in Saskatoon for the past 35 years with his family.
He had previously run in the 2020 election for the Saskatoon Centre seat, losing to the NDP's Betty Nippi Albright.
Congratulations to Kim Groff who won a contested nomination for the Saskatoon Meewasin Saskatchewan Party nomination! <a href="https://twitter.com/hashtag/skpoli?src=hash&ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw">#skpoli</a> <a href="https://t.co/YnD2fkKrZB">pic.twitter.com/YnD2fkKrZB</a>
