Emergency officials in Saskatoon are investigating a rash of fires that all happened within a span of two hours in the same neighbourhood, and all on thoroughfares bearing the same name.

In a news release, the Saskatoon fire department says that between 2:00 and 4:00 a.m. CST Friday morning, there were five fires in the Stonebridge neighbourhood.

Two houses caught fire, as did a garage, a vehicle and a construction trailer. The fire department said that in total, the damage estimate hits $450,000.

The fires happened in close proximity on Kolynchuk Bend, Kolynchuk Link and Kolynchuk Court.

A fire department spokesperson said that while the cause of the fires is yet to be determined, it is highly unusual to have so many fires in such a short period of time and in such close proximity.

That's why, he said, the fire department is working closely with police to investigate.
