Falling tree branch damages 3 vehicles on Saskatoon's Coy Avenue
'I took the brunt of it — or my car did': Pat Fodey
No one was injured but three vehicles were damaged Monday night when a large tree branch fell onto a Saskatoon street.
The 1700 block of Coy Avenue near Taylor Street has a number of large, old trees that lean over the road. It was calm weather Monday evening when a large branch on one of the street's trees gave way.
Pat Fodey was inside his home and about to take a shower when the branch fell.
"I heard a loud bang and then there was hammering on my door and the neighbours were outside. So, I threw on some sweats and a shirt and went out there, and 'Yikes,'" he said.
"I took the brunt of it — or my car did."
The windshield of Fodey's 15-year-old car was smashed and there's damage to the bodywork.
He said SGI will cover the repairs and will sue the city on his behalf to recover the $700 deductible.
He said the car that had been parked behind his probably needs a new hood, and the car that was directly under the tree across the street has some roof damage.
A power crew trimmed a few tree branches, just to be on the safe side. According to Fodey, city crews showed up about 10 hours later for clean-up.
