Inquest called into death of Austin Eaglechief after Saskatoon police chase

A coroner in Saskatoon is leading an inquest into the 2017 death of Austin Eaglechief during a police chase.

A coroner in Saskatoon is leading an inquest into the death of Austin Eaglechief.

The 22-year-old died after crashing a stolen truck near the Saskatoon airport during a high-speed chase with city police.

​Eaglechief was in the vehicle being pursued by the Saskatoon Police Service on June 19, 2017. 

The vehicle crashed and police found the driver was not breathing. An officer began CPR until medical personnel arrived a short time later and confirmed that the driver was dead, according to a news release.

Tim Hawryluk will be the coroner. Five days have been set for the inquest.

The inquest is set to begin March 25.
