It's been a big week for the Saskatoon Yellow Jackets.

For the first time in Western Major Baseball League history, two former players dressed for the same Major League Baseball team in a regular season game.

Pitcher and North Battleford, Sask.-raised Andrew Albers pitched five innings for the Seattle Mariners Tuesday night. Former Yellow Jacket Marco Gonzales is expected to take the mound Wednesday night against the Baltimore Orioles.

"If you just think about the odds of this happening, it's pretty mind-boggling, really," former Yellow Jackets coach Rye Pothakos told CBC News. "For a player to make the majors is … it's a long road, and not everyone can do it."

Albers, who played for the Yellow Jackets in 2004, was called up from the minors earlier Tuesday. He also saw action in 17 games in Minnesota and Toronto before being picked up by the Mariners.

Gonzales has pitched in 14 games during his MLB career.

The Saskatoon Yellow Jackets folded in 2015, leaving the city without a WMBL baseball team.

Pothakos said both players showed promise during their time in Saskatoon.

"They were very competitive once they got between the white lines," he said. "You could really see they really strove to be perfectionists, and really pushed themselves to be their best."

Last night's win broke a five-game losing streak for the Mariners.
