Winter 'doesn't matter' to Regina residents on Bike to Work Day
Eric Johnson started riding his bike to work for environmental reasons and for fun
The cold weather was no match for at least one hearty Regina resident.
Eric Johnson was out on two wheels during his morning commute on Friday for the international Winter Bike to Work Day.
"I don't discriminate on the weather," Johnson said. "The weather doesn't matter to me."
Johnson said he chooses to ride his bike throughout the year for environmental reasons and enjoyment.
"The main reason, I think, is because it's fun," he said. "It's fun to get out, get some fresh air, and go for a ride."
He also said this decision is easy on the wallet.
"I have a certain frugality gene," Johnson said. "As parking goes up, the appetite to bike increases."
Bike Regina is organizing a Winter Bike to Work Day event, taking place at the northeast corner of Albert Street and 13th Avenue or the southeast corner of Broad Street and College Avenue. It runs between 4:45 p.m. and 5:30 p.m. CST.
Winter Bike to Work Day began in Canada three years ago after several communities challenged each other to have the highest number of cycling commuters.
