Ulmer family's home wrecked in Regina Beach explosion

Damage from the explosion of natural gas that blew a cottage to pieces has claimed a second home in Regina Beach. The Ulmer family's home, across the street from the blast, was so badly damaged it will have to be torn down.

Emma Ulmer, 15, was at home when the explosion took place Wednesday afternoon.

"I just wanted to get out," she told CBC News about the experience. "I didn't know whether [the house] would collapse on us while we were in there."

Meanwhile, cleanup from the explosion continued with heavy equipment on site to remove debris.

Everyone has been accounted for and there were no reports of any serious injuries.

"It looked like a war zone," Veronica Lucas said Thursday. "The house is just gone. And everything is everywhere."

Emergency officials have established a command centre in town. A portion of the town has been evacuated. About 12 homes are affected. Some of the places were used only as recreation properties and not primary residences.

The Ulmers said they have found a condo to live in.
