A 48-year-old man is dead and Saskatoon police say they're looking for a suspect after the city's third homicide of the year.

At about 12:25 a.m. Saturday, officers were called with a report of an injured person at a home on the 200 block of Avenue I South, in the Riversdale neighbourhood, Saskatoon police said in a news release.

Officers found a 48-year-old man with gunshot wounds, who was taken to hospital but died from the injuries soon after.

Police told CBC they are still looking for a suspect. They say the victim and the suspect knew each other, but they have not released the age or sex of the suspect.

The victim's next of kin have been notified, but police said they are not releasing his name at this point.

The major crimes unit continues to investigate, and police are asking anyone with information on the homicide to call them at 306-975-8300 or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477.

This is the third weekend in a row police have reported a homicide in Saskatoon, following the deaths of a 48-year-old man on Feb. 10 and a 25-year-old man from Alberta on Feb. 3.

Corrections

  • Police initially said the victim in the most recent homicide was 50 years old. They later issued a correction indicating he was 48.
