Police announced Tuesday that Swift Current's Rebecca Lynn Kuhlman, 25, has been arrested and charged with second-degree murder in the death of Logan Ring.

They also confirmed that Kuhlman was known to Ring, who is also from Swift Current.

The victim's mother, Cindy McEwen, said she was shocked to find out Kuhlman was arrested in connection with her son's death.

"I was totally heartbroken ... 100 per cent heartbroken," she said.

After Ring was found dead, Kuhlman offered her condolences, McEwen said.

Ring got clean after struggling with drugs

McEwen said her son, who was 21 at the time of his death, "got into the wrong path" as a youth and became addicted to methamphetamine, among other things.

He was clean for about six months prior to his death, she said.

McEwen said Ring was headstrong, but was always a good person.

"He lived his life with his heart wide open. He loved everybody. If he got money for his birthday and we went into town and he saw a homeless person, instead of buying a treat he would give it to that person," she said.

"He had a two-year-old son who's never going to know how big-hearted his father was."

McEwen said she will be attending Kuhlman's arraignment at Swift Current provincial court on Wednesday.

"I need her to know that if my son was alive, he would want me to eventually forgive her. Now I can't tell you I can do that, but I hope one day I can follow his heart and be able to do that."

Police still looking for information

The Saskatchewan RCMP's major crime unit in the area has been working on the investigation since Ring's death.

They are asking people to contact them if they know anything about what led up to his death. That includes what traffic went in and out of the park from Nov. 14-17, any descriptions of people or vehicles seen in the area during that same time, (including Ring's blue 1991 Ford Explorer), and Ring's activities and whereabouts prior to his death.
