Saskatchewan Roughriders' quarterback Darian Durant says he's hoping to become a Canadian citizen within the next two years.

Durant, 33, who's from Florence, South Carolina, made the announcement on the weekend during Grey Cup festivities in Winnipeg.

"Within the next two years, everything should be finalized and I'll be a Canadian," Durant told a roomful of Rider fans.

Durant, who first signed with the Riders in 2006, led the team to a Grey Cup win in 2013.

He was injured in 2014 and 2015, but is set to return next season.
