Métis Nation president under fire

Several high profile Métis politicians from across the province are calling for their president to resign.

Métis Nation of Saskatchewan President Robert Doucette is under fire from the Provincial Métis Council.

Some members of the council say he refuses to talk to them. They also say money has been misspent.

Among Doucette's detractors is Karen Larocque, regional director for Métis in southwest Saskatchewan. She wants Doucette gone as soon as possible.

"I think the best thing we can do for our people and our nation is to call an early election and put everybody out of our misery," Larocque said Friday.

Doucette disagrees, saying the Métis Nation is in good shape.

"[The] Metis Nation is in good shape financially," Doucette said. "As I've said previously, we've had two governance reviews; we've had our own audit."

The next Métis election is scheduled for 2012.
