Gates temporarily closed to campers at Craven Country Jamboree grounds
Music festival plans to reopen front gates Wednesday afternoon
Wet conditions at the Craven Country Jamboree grounds has prompted the festival to temporarily close its gates to campers.
The front gates were open for a few hours Tuesday morning before it was decided to wait a day.
Anyone coming in from out of town is asked to park at Evraz Place (Lots B and C) in Regina for the day.
The plan is to let the roads dry out a little and then reopen the gates on Wednesday at 2 p.m. CST.
The wet weather has never stopped Craven campers in the past, but after a few rainy years, the organizers are trying to make sure the access roads don't get too muddy.
Jamboree director Kim Blevins said the organization is prepared if the rain keeps falling.
"Back in 2011, we built a system of dikes around the site. So that was 4.9 kilometres of diking, so that if the creek was coming up it would keep the water off the site," she said.
Blevins added that the drainage system was put to the test a few years ago and worked well.
The four-day country music festival, which features acts like Eric Church and Zac Brown Band, runs July 14-17.
