Fire destroys general store in Edam, Sask.

The village of Edam, Sask., has lost a key business — its general store — to a fire.

The village of Edam, Sask., has lost a key business — its general store — to a fire.

"It's the only store we have in town. It's been there forever," said Danielle Troesch, who lives outside the community and said the flames could be seen from her driveway.

The fire happened at about 3:15 a.m. CST Wednesday in the small community located about 60 kilometres northwest of North Battleford, Sask.

Turtleford RCMP said the Edam Fire Department was able to contain the fire to the one building.

"The building next to it they were able to save, although there may be some water in the basement," Troesch said.
