Fire breaks out at Co-op refinery in Regina

Fire crews were called to the Co-op refinery just outside Regina Tuesday night.

Firefighters were called to an oil refinery east of Regina Tuesday night.

Emergency crews were sent to the Consumers' Co-operative Refinery around 8:30 p.m. CST.

An official for the company told CBC News that no one was injured in the fire, adding that crews were expected to have the situation under control before the end of the night.

The official also said there was no explosion associated with the fire.

A CBC News crew reported that there were no visible flames when they arrived on the scene at around 8:45 p.m.

However, waves of smoke were rolling out of the complex and one access road in the area had been blocked off by police.

Around 9:10 p.m. the smoke seemed to clear the area.

The Regina fire department sent several pieces of fire-fighting equipment, and police and EMS were also at the scene.

Tuesday's fire is the second to hit the complex in the last seven months.

On Oct. 6 an explosion and fire rocked the refinery and sent seven people to hospital, some with serious burns.

The cause of that explosion was still under investigation.
