Children's museum may move to Mendel
The Children's Discovery Museum in Saskatoon is a step closer to moving into the building that has been home to the Mendel Art Gallery.
City officials have signed off on the move, which would still need a final OK by city council.
The children's museum is currently using space at the Market Mall.
Erica Bird, president of the museum, says the support of city officials is important.
"We really appreciate the fact that they are supporting us, and supporting us publicly, and we take it to be a signal that they are confident in our ability to create something fantastic here," Bird said Wednesday.
The museum has until the end of June to submit a business plan to council.
The Mendel Art Gallery, which will be renamed, is moving to a new development in Saskatoon known as River Landing.
"I hope that the public will be happy, now that [the] art gallery is moving, that we are continuing with public programming in this building," Bird added.
If city council approves, the museum could move into the building in late 2014.
