Pulling 20,000 pounds of semi, lifting a Harley-Davidson Fat Boy and other Herculean feats of strength will be on display this Friday.

The 15th annual Western Canada's Strong Man competition will be held on Canada Day in front of the Saskatchewan Legislative Building.

"There's a lot of great athletes from across western Canada coming," said promoter and competitor Brad Provick.

This competition is the gateway to the national strongman competition in Ontario.

"The top 12 guys from Western Canada will be here. So it's kind of like the Grey Cup of Western strongmen. So it's going to be a big day."

Regina winner back to defend title

Regina's own seven-time winner, Scott Cummine, will make his return to the competition. Provick says he's back with a vengeance after losing his title last year.

Cummine, like many who participate in the sport, was injured last year and could not compete.

The competitors know during training when not to push themselves beyond their limits, but all bets are off when it's competition time.

"I'm telling you on," said Provick. "Friday there's going to be no one holding back. For all these guys it's the biggest show of the year."
