This weekend, a Canadian flag will be raised in Charlottetown to remember fallen and missing soldiers.

Some Islanders are honouring veterans early this year by raising a Canadian flag in Charlottetown to remember the country's 128,000 fallen and missing soldiers.

The initiative began last year in Alberta, but this weekend is the first time it's being marked on P.E.I.

Charlene McInnis, the founder of the Veterans Initiatives Network, said Remembrance Day is about more than a single day.

"We are now in a timeframe within the year that is pretty much dedicated to veterans and remembering their sacrifice and family's commitment and compassion to the country," she said.

More than 100 flags will be raised across the country at the same time.

"This is just another visual display, which is very important to have it visually out there so that you can actually come in contact with the whole idea and feel of the enormity of all they have given us," McInnis said.

The ceremony will take place at the Charlottetown Events Grounds on Saturday at 3 p.m.

It will include a vintage Second World War Harvard flyover, PTSD horses with veteran riders and the Red Deer pipe and drum band.
