Oak planted at site of former veterans' hospital

An oak tree with roots that stretch back to the Battle of Vimy Ridge was planted at the P.E.I. lieutenant-governor's residence in Charlottetown Tuesday.
Lt.-Gov. Frank Lewis and Premier Wade MacLauchlan took part in the planting ceremony.
The tree is a clone of those planted in Scarborough, Ont. a century ago, using acorns brought from the World War I battle field.
The tree was planted in the Rena McLean Veterans Garden, on the site of the former Veterans Hospital at Fanningbank. That hospital served World War I veterans, including some of those who served at Vimy.
