P.E.I.'s $2 North Shore transit route now a permanent summer service
Service was launched as a pilot project in 2022, attracting workers and tourists alike

A seasonal transit route to P.E.I.'s North Shore and the Cavendish tourism zone will now run every summer.
The province's Department of Transportation and Infrastructure said in a news release that the rural transit pilot project, launched in 2022, has become a permanent part of the summer schedule.
The route will provide transportation for workers, residents and visitors during the busy tourist season, the release said.
From June through the summer, buses will run seven days a week from Summerside and Charlottetown, with stops in Kensington, Stanley Bridge, Cavendish, North Rustico, Oyster Bed Bridge and Winsloe.
"By making this service permanent, we're supporting our Island economy and ensuring that people can get where they need to go safely and affordably," Transportation and Infrastructure Minister Ernie Hudson was quoted as saying in the release.
"Transit ridership is growing, which is great news because it means people are choosing sustainable travel."
The exact schedule will be released in the coming weeks, the news release said.
Fares will remain the same as on other rural transit routes in the province, $2 per ride. Riders can reserve a seat through the Transit P.E.I. website.
The North Shore summer transit route saw a ridership increase of more than 12 per cent in 2024, with more than 10,000 one-way trips, the release said. The province invests approximately $100,000 annually in the service.
