Charlottetown Police urging drivers to make room for motorcycles
Police holding information checks, watching for illegal pipes
Charlottetown Police are taking steps to make the streets safer for motorcycle drivers and to make sure safety inspections are done properly.
Police teamed up with members of the Gold Wing Road Riders association Saturday for a series of information road checks throughout the city.
"People are coming off the winter season and they are getting into the spring and summer season, and they almost need to make that second look just to make sure that their pathway is clear," said Const. Ron Kennedy.
Later in the month, officers will be checking out stations where motorcycle inspections are done to keep an eye out for modified exhausts, some of which are illegal, he said.
The P.E.I. government announced last week new licensing rules that require operators of large motorcycles to take their driving tests on a motorcycle with an engine that is 550 cubic centimetres in size or larger.
