Good Friday: What's open and closed on P.E.I.?

Here's a list of which Island businesses are open and closed. Some restaurants will be open, but it's a good idea to call ahead and check.

Most businesses closed April 18 in recognition of statutory holiday

Many businesses on Prince Edward Island will be closed April 18 in recognition of Good Friday, a statutory holiday in the province.

Here's a list of what's open and closed among some of the Island's businesses and public services. Some restaurants will be open, but it's a good idea to call ahead and check if you plan on heading out. 

Most businesses that usually operate on Saturdays will be open for their regular hours on April 19. 

  • All schools are closed.
  • All federal, provincial and municipal government offices are closed.
  • Sobeys, Co-Op and Foodland stores will be closed Friday but will be open during their regular hours Saturday.
  • Some Murphy's Pharmacies locations are open with reduced hours Friday, including Cornwall, Kinlock, Queen Street, Stratford, West Royalty and Parkdale. The pharmacies in Morell, East Royalty Kensington, Rustico, Tyne Valley, Wellington and Central Street in Summerside are closed. 
  • Atlantic Superstores are closed Friday but open Saturday.
  • P.E.I. Liquor Control Commission stores are closed Friday and open Saturday.
  • P.E.I. Cannabis stores will be closed Friday but will have regular business hours on Saturday.
  • Royalty Crossing mall is closed on Friday but will have regular hours Saturday.
  • Confederation Court Mall is closed Friday, but the Shoppers Drug Mart in the mall is open from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.
  • County Fair Mall in Summerside is closed Friday. The Elections Canada office will be open 9 a.m. to 9 p.m., and Lawtons Drugs will be open from noon to 5 p.m. 
  • Walmart is closed on Friday and open on Saturday.
  • Island Waste Management will not be collecting garbage on Friday. Waste normally collected on Friday will be picked up Saturday.
  • T3 Transit will not be providing bus service on Friday, but will operate on its usual schedule Saturday.
  • P.E.I. public libraries are closed.
  • Canada Post will not be delivering mail.
