Multiple charges have been laid against an inmate at P.E.I.'s Provincial Correctional Centre.

The charges follow an incident on Friday that was described in court documents as an escape attempt.

A man has been charged with kidnapping, forcible confinement, uttering threats, assault with a weapon, and destruction of property — in this case, a window.

Court documents allege a shard of glass was used to threaten a worker at the jail.

The accused appeared in court Monday via video link and will stay in custody. His next appearance was scheduled for later this month.

The provincial Department of Justice said no one was injured, but confirmed restrictions were placed on inmates while RCMP conducted an investigation.
