Community and Cultural Affairs Minister Carolyn Bertram is making the case in Ottawa to ensure federal government employees on P.E.I. can enjoy Islander Day next month.
The provincial government proclaimed the new statutory holiday in the throne speech in April, but federal civil servants have learned that they will have to choose between taking the holiday in February or the holiday in August.
Bertram told CBC News Friday she raised the issue Thursday during a conference call with federal Labour Minister Rona Ambrose.
Bertram said she wanted Ambrose to understand the P.E.I. government brought in the holiday with the intention that it be for all P.E.I. workers.
Ambrose assured her that would be taken into consideration, said Bertram.
