After years of lobbying the water systems at two Abegweit First Nation's communities in P.E.I. have been upgraded, says Chief Brian Francis.
The two projects, in Morell and Rocky Point, cost a combined $490,000, which was provided by the federal Department of Aboriginal Affairs.
Francis said the upgrades ensure basic health requirements are in place.
"We have extra backup wells and we have chlorination and those types of things that are required of Health Canada for clean drinking water," said Francis.
About 130 people live in the two Island Mi'kmaq communities.
