Winter storms start tonight in Ontario, Quebec
Snow expected to start Thursday night, freezing rain warnings issued from Huron to Kingston
A winter storm double-header could be headed for southern Quebec and Ontario starting Thursday night, throwing holiday travel plans into question for many.
Environment Canada has issued special weather statements for an area stretching from Windsor, Ont., to the Quebec-New Brunswick border.
By Thursday afternoon, freezing rain warnings were issued from Huron through to Belleville and Kingston.
The first storm could bring as many as 10 centimetres of snow to areas north of Barrie and Ottawa in Ontario starting Thursday night.
Areas south of this line can expect more rain, ice pellets or freezing rain than snow, the statement said.
In Quebec, Environment Canada said the storm will bring five to 10 centimetres of snow as it passes through on Friday, but it could slow down and leave more behind.
There’s also the risk of freezing rain near the New York and Vermont borders.

'Major' ice storm possible Saturday night
Saturday could bring a major ice storm to southern Ontario, with “significant” amounts of freezing rain a possibility from a system bringing moisture from the Gulf of Mexico.
While there’s still uncertainty about where this storm will hit, Environment Canada said areas around Ontario’s Highway 401 have the greatest likelihood for downed tree limbs and power lines.
Parts of Ontario further north could see significant snow and ice pellet amounts from this storm, which Environment Canada said could significantly affect holiday travel.
Quebec can expect to see the storm hit Saturday evening or Sunday, with ice pellets and freezing rain forecast for southwestern and central parts of the province.
Environment Canada said the Gaspé peninsula and Upper North Shore are at the greatest risk of being affected by the storm later Sunday.
