The Belleville area was hit by waves of sudden blowing snow Thursday morning and afternoon.

Environment Canada had a snow squall warning for local communities such as Belleville, Trenton and Stirling, earlier calling for seven to 14 centimetres of snow by evening and then upgrading that around 9:30 a.m. to a total of 10 to 20 centimetres.

It asked drivers to be ready to adapt if conditions rapidly change on them.

The Kingston area and Prince Edward County had a winter weather travel advisory about five to 10 total centimetres of blowing snow Thursday.

School bus agencies for the area did not announce widespread changes.

Off-and-on snow overnight picked back up around 4 a.m. at the CFB Trenton weather station, where gusts peaked around 50 kilometres an hour Thursday.

The region is emerging from a cold snap, with seasonal highs around –5 C in Trenton forecast for the next three days. Saturday night's low is expected to be around the same temperature.
