Person dead after fire in Pembroke

Ontario Provincial Police say a person who was pulled from a burning building on a residential street in Pembroke Friday morning later died from their injuries.

Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) say a person who was pulled from a burning building on a residential street in Pembroke Friday morning later died from their injuries.

In a news release, police said emergency crews were called to Mary Street around Doran Street shortly before 8 a.m.

An unidentified victim was removed from the building and brought to a hospital, where they later died, police said. The cause of death hasn't been confirmed.

Mary Street is closed nearby and people are advised to avoid the area.

Besides police, the Ontario fire marshal, chief coroner and forensic pathology office are involved in the investigation.

The fire happened about half a kilometre south of the city's Waterfront Park. Pembroke is about 120 kilometres northwest of downtown Ottawa.
