Ottawa police officer charged with impaired driving after crash
Const. Cory Chuchryk placed on administrative duties
UPDATE: Const. Cory Chuchryk pleaded guilty to and was convicted of impaired driving on June 11, 2024, in the Ontario Court of Justice. The charges of failing to stop and dangerous driving were withdrawn. He was sentenced to 12 months of probation, a total of $6,500 in fines and a 12-month driving ban. His probation includes orders to make $230 in restitution to a man and $5,000 in restitution to Ottawa police. He remains on administrative duty and is awaiting the outcome of an internal investigation into his actions.
An Ottawa police officer has been charged with impaired and dangerous driving after getting into a crash while off-duty on St. Patrick's Day.
In a release sent Saturday morning, the Ottawa Police Service (OPS) said Const. Cory Chuchryk was facing charges of impaired operations, failure to stop after an accident and dangerous driving.
There were no injuries in the two-vehicle collision, the OPS said.
Chuchryk has been placed on administrative duties, according to the release.
His first court appearance is scheduled for May 7.
