Murder, attempted murder charges laid for Sunday shooting

A 22-year-old Ottawa man is facing first-degree murder and attempted murder charges after a Sunday morning shooting west of the core.

A 22-year-old Ottawa man is facing first-degree murder and attempted murder charges after a Sunday morning shooting west of the core.

Two men were taken to hospital in critical condition Sunday after reports of shots fired near the east end of Craig Henry Drive.

Police later announced that 20-year-old Mahad Elmi had died, while the other victim, a 21-year-old, had injuries that were serious but not life-threatening.

Ottawa police said Wednesday morning they had arrested and charged 22-year-old Osman Yare. He is scheduled to appear in court the same morning.
