Two men from Ottawa have been charged with possessing child pornography in an ongoing investigation involving police in Australia and a social media company.

In a news release, Ottawa police said their investigation started in late 2017 when police in Queensland, Australia, told them one of their undercover child pornography investigations found a suspect who appeared to be in the Ottawa area.

Then, late last year, an unspecified social media company told Ottawa police about a user who also appeared to be from their area distributing child pornography.

The internet child exploitation unit zeroed in on an address in the Blossom Park neighbourhood, south of South Keys.

Officers carried out a search warrant Tuesday and said they found images and video of sexual abuse.

Could be more victims, police say

Two men living there, age 56 and 25, were charged with two counts of possessing child pornography.

The 56-year-old was also charged with one count of making child pornography available.

Ottawa police said the investigation is ongoing so they couldn't release certain details, such as the specific social media company.

They're also concerned there could be more victims.
