3 Ottawa hospital campuses remove limits on visiting hours

The three campuses of The Ottawa Hospital have joined the Children's Hospital of Eastern Ontario by allowing visiting 24 hours a day.

As of Sept. 14, the Civic, General and Riverside hospital campuses allow visiting at any time

The three campuses of The Ottawa Hospital now allow family and friends to visit patients 24 hours a day.

Debra Bournes, the hospital's vice-president, says they decided to eliminate all visiting-hour limits as of Sept. 14.

There are few restrictions for visitors of hospital patients but "common sense prevails" when confidentiality is necessary or when nurses and/or doctors need to provide care.

The Children's Hospital of Eastern Ontario (CHEO) already allows visitors 24 hours a day, but this is the first time adults in Ottawa hospitals can have visitors at any time.

The other two hospitals in Ottawa — Queensway-Carleton Hospital and Monfort Hospital — told CBC News they are reviewing their policies on visiting hours.
