TrentonWorks union says tentative deal struck

A tentative agreement is in place for workers at the TrentonWorks railcar plant, union leaders said Thursday.

The UnitedSteelworkers union said the contract deal with the company was struck Wednesday night after a meeting with government officials.

Union membersare expected tovote onthe tentativedealSunday.

The unionis not releasing details about the tentative agreement, but is recommending its members accept it. About 200 people are working on TrentonWorks' only order.

The United Steelworkersrejected an offer from the company last month.

The union announced it was poised to strike on Monday, but agreed to delay a walkout after Nova Scotia MP Peter MacKay urged both sides to return to the bargaining table.

The future ofthe railcar plantis uncertain.

TrentonWorks' American parent company, Greenbrier, has said the plant in Trenton is its least competitive facility and the board of directors will discuss the plant's future at a meeting in April.
