Snow squalls warnings in effect for parts of Nova Scotia
Counties of Antigonish, Inverness, Pictou and Victoria may see blowing snow
Snow squalls and flurries are expected to continue through the weekend in western Cape Breton and northern parts of mainland Nova Scotia, areas that remain under an Environment Canada weather warning.
The weather service says Antigonish County, Inverness County (Mabou and north), Pictou County and Victoria County may experience heavy, blowing snow that could quickly accumulate on Saturday.
Drivers should prepare for quickly changing and deteriorating travel conditions, Environment Canada says.
"Visibility will be suddenly reduced to near zero at times in heavy snow and blowing snow," the website said.
Cold, windy night
A weather system with cold, northwest winds has settled over the region.
The snow squall could bring more than 15 centimetres of snow to Antigonish County and Pictou County overnight Saturday.
Parts of Inverness County and Victoria County could see up to 30 centimetres of snowfall by Sunday evening.
Flurries and gusting winds are expected Saturday evening in eastern Cape Breton.
Environment Canada is calling for some snow with northwest winds gusting to 40 km/h in other parts of mainland Nova Scotia.
Temperatures are expected to fall to –10 C to –15 C overnight.
