Subject of emergency alert in Indian Brook released without charges
RCMP issued an alert around 7 p.m. Sunday in response to an alleged firearms incident
The woman who was the subject of an emergency alert after a firearms incident in Indian Brook on Sunday has been released without charges after turning herself in.
The alert, which was sent out by Nova Scotia RCMP around 7 p.m. AT Sunday, described an alleged firearms incident at a home in Indian Brook.
It said police were looking for a suspect who had fled the scene on foot, and advised people in the community to stay in their homes.
In a news release Monday, RCMP said there wasn't enough evidence to confirm an offence had been committed.
What happened
The release said around 4:45 p.m. Sunday, an RCMP officer on Church Street was told by a witness that a 27-year-old woman was armed inside of a home on Dowie Road.
After investigating, police learned the woman was not in the residence and the emergency alert was issued.
The release said police didn't find any evidence that a firearm had been discharged at the residence, or that the woman had a firearm.
The alert was cancelled after police determined there was no threat to public safety.
The woman turned herself in to the Sipekne'katik RCMP shortly after midnight. She was interviewed and released without charges.
Police said the firearms investigation is ongoing.
