Jean Chrétien to help open Dalhousie University public policy centre
Institute named for Cape Breton born politician Allan J. MacEachen
Former prime minister Jean Chrétien and Bob Rae, past interim leader of the federal Liberal Party, will be in Halifax on Monday for the grand opening of a new public policy institute at Dalhousie University.
The MacEachen Institute for Public Policy and Governance is described by the university as a nationally focused, non-partisan, interdisciplinary institute that supports progressive public policy development and citizen engagement.
It's named for Cape Breton born politician Allan J. MacEachen who served as a cabinet minister many times over and was Canada's first deputy prime minister.
The institute aims to engage youth, encourage smart infrastructure and health systems.
The ceremony starts at 10:00 a.m. and is open to the public at Ondaatje Hall, the Marion McCain Arts and Social Sciences Building on University Avenue.
There will also be a panel discussion on the future of public policy.
