Halifax's snow removal budget may is taking a drubbing this winter, but the municipality is bringing a little back into its coffers with nearly 12,000 parking ban tickets issued during the course of the season.
Each ticket is $50 and the number this year is nearly double the count in 2012-2013, and more than triple last year.
The city enforced its overnight parking ban 45 times this season, compared with 15 days last year.
Here's the breakdown:
- 2014/15: 11,837 parking ban tickets and 87 tows
- 2013/14: 3,346 tickets
- 2012/13: 6,046 tickets
As for this year's snow removal costs, a Halifax official said earlier this month the municipality could be $10 million over budget.
